Data sourcing

We read the FMCSA Company Census file published on the U.S. Department of Transportation's open data portal. It lists motor carriers that have registered with FMCSA, along with the identifying, address and contact information those carriers filed. It is public record data, published by the federal government.

A scheduled job pulls newly added registrations every day and upserts them into our index by USDOT number. New filings typically appear in the product within a day of landing in the federal file.

Nothing substantive. We normalize field names, split records into structured columns and mask contact fields for public visitors and Starter accounts. We do not edit, score, enrich or append third-party data to carrier records.

Records are only as accurate as what the carrier filed. Phone numbers can be wrong or disconnected, addresses can be stale, and some registrations are abandoned before the carrier ever operates. We surface the filing, not a verification of it.

rignu is an independent commercial product. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by, endorsed by, or in any way officially connected with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the U.S. Department of Transportation, or any other government agency. References to FMCSA and USDOT are descriptive, to identify the public source of the data.

Carriers who do not want to appear in rignu can contact us and we will suppress their record. The underlying filing stays public at the federal source, so suppression here does not remove it from FMCSA or from other data providers.
